A team comprised of bad-ass women committed to helping other bad-ass women hired The Party Bar to help with their annual event for single mothers.
Her husband, Andrew, asked her what she wanted for Christmas. And how did my dear friend, Sasha, respond, “I want to adopt a mom. A random mom. A mom that I would never meet.” And after putting her request on a Facebook group page, nearly 100 women in need commented, and almost 80% of them got adopted!
Finding inspiration within the post (and 370 comments later), she decided this was her mission. She knew she wanted to help women and had the resources to help make their season “a little brighter and the load a little lighter.”
So, what started as a “cool idea” became a reality in December 2021 as Project Intentional put on their first event where single mothers could shop at a holiday store to pick up gifts, like toys and clothes, for their little ones.
A Winter Wonderland
With Sasha’s goal in mind, “I hope one day no woman or child will go a holiday season without a gift,” we created a winter wonderland emporium.
We took a walk through Abide Campus Building E and quickly started dreaming up a red-and-pink vision. Then, working alongside Project Intentional and Balloon Villa, we met to make sure our mock-up matched their hope for the event. And it sure was! But, with only eight days to spare, we needed to jump on the project – and quick!
So, while Juli at Balloon Villa began working finding stock and color-matching balloons, I ran to Home Depot to see what we could find for the custom build. With the rush of the job and flashback to geometry class, we created a Candy Land-inspired backdrop for the event three days later.
With baby pinks and pastel mints, over 450 mothers could shop, laugh, and feel loved and valued this Winter Land Emporium with our decor as a backdrop. With the help of over 55 volunteers, women of all walks of life were able to be overshadowed by the overwhelming love and support cast by a one-holiday wish.
