What is Galentine’s Day?

There’s nothing better than dedicating a day to showering your besties with love and laughter.

What is Galentine’s Day?

Interestingly, Galentine’s Day was not created by a card company or internet marketing place itchin’ to make a dime. Instead, it comes from season 2, episode 16 of Parks and Rec. PHOTO Leslie Knope gathers her gals for waffles and love saying, “every February 13th, my lady friends and I leave our husbands and our boyfriends at home, and we just come and kick it, breakfast style.” It’s all about ladies celebrating ladies. And thus, Galentine’s Day was unofficially added to everyone’s calendar.

How do I celebrate Galentine’s Day?

First, like Valentine’s Day, you can “hard pass” on it. That said, it’s worth a chance. Sure, it’s a little cheesy, but there’s nothing better than dedicating a day to shower besties with love and laughter. There’s no right or wrong way to celebrate. Without traditions, you can draw up the rules (like you needed to follow them anyways). Disclaimer:Despite its name, anyone can celebrate this friend-filled holiday. It’s a day for the gooey-hearted to celebrate friends who will never leave your side as romantic relationships ebb and flow. Many pay tribute to the foremother of Galentine’s Day, Mrs. Knope, with a classic waffle and love brunch. If that’s not the vibe, book a reservation, wine, and paint sip, or spice it up with a themed party at home.
