Few things bring as much pure joy as a kid’s birthday party — the laughter, the cake, and of course, the decorations! And when it comes to making a child’s special day truly magical, balloon decor is a must.
At The Party Bar, we love creating balloon setups that make kids’ eyes light up. From dinosaurs to unicorns, outer space to under the sea, balloons can bring any theme to life — big or small, simple or over-the-top.
If you’re planning your little one’s next celebration, we’ve gathered some of our favorite themed balloon decor ideas to inspire you. These are all designs our Omaha-based team can create (and customize!) to fit your vision, space, and budget.
1. The Classic Princess Party
Every little royal deserves a party fit for a queen!
For a princess-themed birthday, we love using soft pastels like blush pink, lavender, gold, and white. Think flowing balloon garlands with shimmering metallics, tiara-shaped accents, and even a castle backdrop made of balloons.
Add some sparkle with confetti-filled balloons or golden number balloons to mark the age. And don’t forget a photo-ready balloon arch by the cake table — perfect for capturing those magical memories.
Pro tip: Mix in iridescent or chrome balloons to give your princess setup that extra regal shine!
2. Outer Space Adventure
For your little astronaut, let’s blast off into a galaxy of fun!
A space-themed balloon design can include deep navy, silver, black, and pops of holographic tones. Picture planet-shaped balloons, silver stars, and rocket accents soaring through an organic balloon garland.
We’ve even created 3D “space scenes” for Omaha parties — complete with glow-in-the-dark details and starry backdrops. Pair it with LED lights and you’ll have a cosmic display that’s truly out of this world.
3. Dino-Mite Dinosaur Party
Rawr! Dinosaur themes never go out of style — and balloon decor is the perfect way to make them roar to life.
We like using a mix of greens, browns, and earthy tones for this one, with touches of gold or orange to add vibrancy. Picture a giant balloon arch framing a “Dino Dig” dessert table, or an entryway garland complete with foil dinosaur figures peeking out from the jungle of balloons.
Pro tip: Add a “Happy Birthdayasaurus” sign and a few palm leaves for a prehistoric paradise your little dino fan will never forget.
4. Under the Sea
Perfect for summer birthdays or pool parties, an under-the-sea balloon theme is full of color and texture.
Our go-to colors: turquoise, teal, purple, coral, and pearl white. Using organic balloon garlands, we can mimic the look of bubbles and waves, while fish- or mermaid-shaped foil balloons add character.
We’ve even created balloon “coral reefs” with twisted balloons to resemble ocean plants — it’s a total showstopper for kids who love mermaids, sharks, or sea creatures.
5. Superhero Headquarters
Calling all heroes! Superhero-themed balloon decor is bold, colorful, and full of action.
Think primary colors — red, blue, yellow — combined with comic-book style graphics and cityscape balloon backdrops. Add large balloon letters spelling out “POW!” or “BAM!” and you’ve got instant energy and excitement.
At The Party Bar, we can even create custom balloon sculptures — like capes, lightning bolts, or shields — to make your child’s favorite superhero come to life.
Pro tip: Keep the design balanced with neutral accents (like black or white) so the colors pop without overwhelming the space.
6. Safari or Jungle Adventure
If your kid loves animals, a safari-themed party is a wild choice!
We use earthy tones like green, tan, brown, and gold — sometimes adding balloon “leaves” or vines to create that lush jungle vibe. Foil animal balloons like lions, zebras, and elephants make perfect additions.
You can even have a balloon garland “crawling” up a tree or wrapping around a tent for an immersive safari experience.
7. Rainbow Dreamland
A rainbow-themed balloon party is pure happiness!
Perfect for all ages and genders, rainbow balloon decor brings tons of color and joy to any space. We can create:
- Rainbow arches for the entrance
- Cloud-shaped balloon bases
- Hanging rainbows made from curved garlands
This theme is bright, photogenic, and endlessly cheerful — ideal for a first birthday or any milestone celebration.
Pro tip: Try a pastel rainbow palette for a softer, more whimsical version of this theme.
8. Sports Fan Celebration
For your little MVP, let’s bring the stadium to the party!
Sports-themed balloon decor can feature your child’s favorite team colors, along with foil balloons shaped like balls, jerseys, or trophies. A balloon arch over the dessert table or entrance instantly sets the mood.
If you’re celebrating outdoors, we can even design goal post balloon columns or balloon “scoreboards” for the perfect photo backdrop.
9. Sweet Treats Party
Who doesn’t love candy? A sweet shop or candyland theme lets you go wild with color!
Think pinks, purples, blues, and yellows — plus fun shapes like lollipops, donuts, or ice cream cones made out of balloons. A balloon “candy wall” or dessert table backdrop will make guests feel like they’ve stepped into a sugar-filled wonderland.
Pro tip: Combine balloons with real candy jars or paper streamers for an extra-sweet touch.
